Definition and Development of Interprofessional Education

Interprofessional education (IPE) refers to the method of learning where students or professionals of two or more disciplines in the health field learn alongside, with and about each other to enhance collaboration and health outcomes. The idea was created to respond to the growing complexity of health care systems and the understanding that a divided care system leads to medical errors and unfavorable patient outcomes.

In the past, health professionals were taught independently, and this curtailed the knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of each discipline (Aldriwesh et al., 2022).
