This has become a significant issue in recent years, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the pandemic exposed many communities’ critical lack of preparedness (Mason et al., 2021). Disaster and pandemic preparedness is a coordinated effort that involves planning, allocating resources, and effective communication that enables communities to respond and recover from a disaster. Public health systems rely on robust preparedness frameworks to safeguard vulnerable populations, to minimise deaths, and to ensure the operation of core services in the event of a crisis (Mason et al., 2021).

The issue of the policy is the effectiveness of communities in preparing to respond to large-scale events like bioterrorism threats, natural disasters, or pandemics. As future leaders in the health world, we need to advocate for policies that will ensure our local community receives funding, equity, and quick response systems.
