1. As you navigate through the halfway point of your DNP project courses, what specific goals have you identified for your personal, professional, and leadership development, and how do you envision these goals evolving as you progress further in your coursework?
In the middle, I have found three areas of critical development that define my doctoral experience. I will develop my resilience and emotional intelligence to be able to cope with complicated healthcare situations. Personally, I would like to develop my skills in the implementation of evidence-based practices and the quality improvement methodology. My leadership objectives are centered on gaining transformational leadership practices that can lead to organizational change and developing future nurses as mentors. In the future, I expect the goals to be increasingly more related and advanced.
Work-life integration is the likely focus of my personal development as the number of responsibilities grows. At the professional level, I would like to gain expertise in global health policy formulation. Broome et al. (2020) also expressed that doctoral preparation essentially turns nursing professionals into academic practitioners who can spearhead the advancement of healthcare. This is very true to my growing vision of leadership responsibility. On the leadership front, I could see myself moving beyond the theoretical aspects of learning leadership styles and actually working to bring change programs in healthcare systems. The rest of the coursework will certainly perfect the ambitions and add new facets of academic practice and scientific use.
2. Reflect on your feelings about diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) principles and implicit bias. How do these principles shape your actions and decisions in your designated discipline? How does implicit bias impact your development as a professional and leader?
My DEI beliefs have grown, changed, and grown stronger during the doctoral experience, shifting from awareness to advocacy. I understand that the existence of healthcare disparities is directly related to the systemic inequity that needs deliberate intervention practices. The concepts have become the core of my clinical decision-making, research, and patient advocacy practices daily. The fact that forces me to focus on revisiting my unconscious premises regarding the background and abilities of patients regularly.
Implicit bias affects professional development immensely by developing blind spots and limiting cultural competence and empathy. As Cooper et al. (2022) underline, implicit bias is the most hidden obstacle to fair healthcare provision, which has to be checked with oneself consistently and with the organization held responsible. As an administrative leader, I should be able to actively question my preconceptions as well as create inclusive working conditions for my colleagues. In the future, I will introduce a bias interruption strategy and promote non-discriminatory recruitment methods. I will strive to ensure that I establish psychologically secure environments where team members will feel cherished, irrespective of their backgrounds. Viewing implicit bias as a lifelong learning experience, as opposed to a failure, allows one to lead and achieve better patient outcomes.
3.How has your writing evolved, and what specific strategies or skills have contributed to this progress? Additionally, what areas do you still hope to refine or develop further in the second half of your coursework?
The process of writing through the doctoral program has changed to become more of an analysis of academic study as opposed to a narrative description. In the very beginning, I had difficulties with the synthesis of complicated theoretical information to make logical arguments and use adequate academic language. Some of the strategies that played important roles in my improvement were the development of systemic outlines, involvement in peer reviews, and the use of APA formatting on a regular basis.
I have empowered my critical thinking skills by assessing literature critically and making evidence-based arguments effectively. According to McAlpine and Boz (2023), the development of doctoral writing demands repetitive and gradual training with feedback incorporated to gain control of the scholarly voice. The principle has led me to use the principle of continuous improvement by mentoring the faculty and consulting with the writing center.
In the future, I would like to focus on perfecting my grant writing abilities and manuscript writing to be published. I will acquire the skills of translating complicated research results into various decisions, such as those of policymakers. I would like to improve my skills in writing abstracts and executive summaries that are convincing. The coursework that will follow will offer the chance to train the developed writing skills as preparation for the dissertation proposal and future scholarly publication projects.
4. Reflecting on your academic journey thus far, how has your motivation and commitment to self-care evolved throughout the program? Identify specific strategies or practices that have nurtured your well-being and impacted your motivation. Looking ahead, describe how you intend to prioritize self-care and maintain motivation as you continue your studies. Furthermore, consider what actions you plan to take for yourself to ensure your continued well-being and success.
My concept of self-care has changed from being reactive to stress management to being proactive to have wellness incorporated within the program. First, I considered self-care a luxury and not a requirement to maintain academic performance and become professionally effective.
The main tactics that promote my well-being are setting up routines of regular sleep, exercise routines, and mindfulness meditation. According to Dietz et al. (2023), doctoral students who employ systematic self-care techniques have a much better completion rate and better performance in school. The evidence supports my idea of emphasizing wellness and academic success with the help of conscious boundaries and time management.
In the future, I will continue therapy sessions every week and monthly wellness visits with mentors. I will maintain yoga and journaling practices to deal with complex emotions and academic stressors adequately. I will also foster positive peer support and indulge in off-academic hobbies. The actions make sure that there is a long-term motivation without burnout in case of intensive dissertation stages and any other professional difficulties that may arise later.
