Practicum Hours Submission

During my practicum, I completed 50 hours of practice implementing a mobile application that enables patients to upload health data to their provider or healthcare team safely. With my preceptor’s guidance, I evaluated user needs and designed clinical workflows.

I translated care requirements into technical specifications, with an emphasis on privacy, regulatory compliance, and interoperability with existing health information technology systems. I worked with developers and clinical stakeholders to define characteristics that would enhance patient engagement, accessibility, and seamless integration into care processes, balancing usability and performance with data security.

A good amount of my time was spent perfecting the user interface, conducting iterative usability testing, resolving connection and performance issues, and incorporating feedback from representative end users and my preceptor. I logged bugs and enhancement requests, prioritized and triaged matters to improve data capture reliability and reduce friction when working with diverse patient populations.

The hands-on experience made me even more proficient in mobile development and testing, in understanding Digital Health implementation in clinical settings, and in discussing technical trade-offs with nontechnical people. In addition to the main lessons learned, I have included a summary of lessons learned and recommendations for future iterations to inform implementation efforts and stakeholder engagement.

The practicum concluded by making recommendations on actions that can be taken to improve adoption and achieve a better workflow fit, contributing to solutions that support better communication between the patient and their care teams.
